Jason [Ritter] is a member of our family, so it’s a funny position where we’re all hopeful for these two… but in a way, it’s a win/lose situation.”

ChelsitaRae Parenthood. WHOA.
Right? Right?! Stop reading right now if you haven't seen last night's phenomenal episode. But just wait til you see next week's episode, which is...the wedding! They throw it together in only three days. We were on set for it, and it was totally magical (as all Braverman backyard family events should be). Well…Except for Adam and Crosby whose bromance is O.V.E.R. Crosby is gonna oust him as his best man, so it's vicious, y'all. So are the storylines for Sarah and another Braverman female. Prepare to cry. It's a great season finale.

After Tuesdays episode of Parenthood, I need to see the aftermath of the Bob Little and Amber storyline! Jonathan Tucker is so adorable, please tell me he’s not going anywhere! — Stefanie
I know that it’s a tricky situation with them. I’ve always felt conflicted on it, even just myself, from the beginning. I’m like, well, Bob is a great guy. He’s great for her, he recognizes that she’s really a great, smart girl, and really cares about her. But it’s tricky, working with your boss, and also he’s older. It’s a hard situation to actually have a plausible relationship in, so I don’t know if she’s going to be able to balance that. She’s going to have to start making some difficult decisions.

Sandra, I feel like a crazy person whenever I scour the NBC and EW websites for indication that Parenthood has been renewed for a fourth season. Did this happen and I’m simply obtuse? Or has it not happened yet, and if so, when can we expect to know?! I’d appreciate any scoop you have! Thanks. — Maria Garnett (Bryan, Texas)
No fourth season…yet, according to Peter Krause. “I’m confident we’ll have a fourth season, and [Peter and Crosby will] still be at the Luncheonette, recording music,” he told EW on set earlier this week. To understand the latter part of that quote, you have to watch Tuesday’s episode, which throws some curve balls at the pair and their current business plans.

Nicole: Parenthood please! I can't believe there are only two episodes left.
Crosby and Adam's bromance is in serious jeopardy! There's trouble brewing (aka a massive fight) and it leads to a very funny cameo by a certain Friday Night Lights actor in the season finale (Feb. 28). It's perfect casting. Jason Katims likes to keep it in the family, y'all. Now how's about a little Taylor Kitsch action..hmmm?

Monica: Please, something good on Parenthood? I am so in love with this show.
Testify! Only two episodes left this season (they only got 18 episodes this year), and if that's not enough to make you cry buckets, how about this scoop bomb: There is a devastating blow coming up for two characters that, honestly, I wanna curl up in the fetal position even thinking about. (Shudder.) Also, there's a heartwarming surprise between a certain couple in the next episode that will lead to a very cool season finale! Bottom line: Next two episodes of Parenthood are not. To. Be. Missed.

Based on the photo above, from an upcoming episode, we’ll venture to say that Amber, despite her lack of a degree, impresses Bob just fine.)

Courtney Ford casted at Crosby's new love interest
November 18, 2011

A Crosby-Jasmine reunion is suddenly looking a lot less likely this season on Parenthood. Dexter and True Blood alum Courtney Ford is joining NBC’s sublime family drama as a new love interest for Dax Shepard’s bachelor. Her character, Lily, is an accomplished cello player who starts renting time at Crosby and Adam’s recording studio. Described as down-to-earth and wry-humored, Lily begins to connect with Crosby despite an inauspicious first meeting. Ford — who last month guest-starred as a comic book nerd on The Big Bang Theory — will debut in January and recur through the remainder of Parenthood‘s way-too-short third season, which concludes on Feb. 28.

Ask Ausiello: Spoilers...
November 8, 2011

Question: Loving this season of Parenthood. Scoop, please? —Stephanie
Ausiello: It looks like an all-male version of All About Eve will soon be staged at the Luncheonette when nascent music producer Adam lands the cover of the San Francisco Chronicle, prompting Crosby to sneer, “I’ll admit I may have seen better days, but I’m still not to be had for the price of a cocktail, like a salted peanut.” The news isn’t all bad for Dax Shepard’s hapless alter ego. His love life will begin looking up when he falls for a bright, accomplished, wry-witted cello player who just so happens to be renting space at the recording studio.

Jonathan Tucker cast as Amber and Kristina's New Boss!
November 2, 2011

Is Amber about to mix politics and pleasure?

That’s my guess in light of the news that Parenthood has cast Black Donnellys alum Jonathan Tucker in the recurring role of Bob Little, a “frighteningly young and attractive” political candidate for whom Amber (Mae Whitman) and Kristina (Monica Potter) go to work. Kristina’s former intern, Bob hires the harried wife and mother-of-three to run his campaign. Kristina, in turn, hires Amber to assist her. An outgoing man who appreciates the enthusiasm of others, Bob is a candidate who inspires confidence on sight. Whether he inspires Amber to make googly eyes at him remains to be seen. Tucker, whose recent TV credits include guest stints on White Collar, Criminal Minds and Royal Pains, debuts in this season’s 11th episode, airing in early ’12.

EP Jason Katims previews Adam and Kristina trouble, Sarah's ex drama, and hope for Crosby and Jasmine

Question: Any Parenthood scoop concerning Sarah and Mark? I love them together! —Mimi
Ausiello: Well, then you might not like what I’m about to tell you: There’s trouble ahead, and it involves the return of Sarah’s ex, played by John Corbett. “She’s trying to balance Mark and her new life with this man that she has very complicated feelings for,” Ritter explains of Corbett’s Seth. “This is the father of her children and she loves him in certain ways. But she also wants to start anew, and she’s not sure that Mark can take on everything that’s in her life. It’s really interesting. It’s that great thing that Parenthood does. It’s not overly dramatic. It’s just real life.”

Ausiello: P’hood boss Jason Katims had what he calls a “fun role” earmarked for Smash’s mom (a.k.a. actress Liz Mikel), but sadly she wasn’t available. “I’m always open to [drafting FNL actors] because it’s an incredible cast,” he raves. “There are no further plans right now, but if there are any possibilities arise, I would try to make that happen.”

Question: Will there be a new guy in Amber’s life this season on Parenthood — preferably someone sane and stable? —Gia
Ausiello: Sane and stable for Amber? “Um, no,” responds Katims with a chuckle. “We have some more unhealthy romances planned for her.” At the start of the season, boy trouble will take a back seat to other more pressing issues as Amber “ventures off on her own,” explains Katims. “She’s working at a coffee shop, struggling to pay the rent and that kind of stuff.”

Question: Will Sarah be a famous playwright when Parenthood returns? —Adam
Ausiello: Not quite. “Her writing career is a little bit subdued for the first couple of episodes,” reveals Sarah’s alter ego, Lauren Graham. “But it’ll come back. I love that Sarah chose something that isn’t instantly gratifying or lucrative, particularly in the Bay Area. But that’s what art is. I like the potentially slow pace of that.” As it is, Sarah will have her hands full juggling the return of Mark (Jason Ritter) and the “loss” of her daughter. “Amber [Mae Whitman] is moving out,” notes Graham, “and I really love how it’s handled, because I didn’t want to be a parent who was trying to make my kid feel bad. The TV Addict: Lauren Graham sure as heck hopes so. “Sarah is finally being open enough to have a relationship even though some of the circumstances aren’t perfect,” explained Graham to your very own TV Addict during a recent one-on-one at NBC’s 2011 TCA party. “Even though he’s [Jason Ritter’s character[ 10 years younger than her, I’ve been dying to explore this in a non-comedic real way. Question: Any Parenthood intel on Adam-Kristina? —Dave
Ausiello: Their relationship will be fraught with more tension than usual when the show returns. “We pick up five months from where we left off, so Kristina is now seven months pregnant,” previews exec producer Jason Katims. “Adam has not yet found a job, so it’s kind of topsy-turvy. Kristina actually got a job [during the time jump], even though she’s seven months pregnant, and Adam still is unemployed. And that’s the tension going on in the beginning.” But before you can say “recipe for disaster,” Adam decides to go into business with his brother. “He gets lured into this idea that Crosby has,” says Katims. “It’s going to be fun of seeing Adam as a fish out of water in Crosby’s world. I love that relationship. The scenes where it’s just the two of those guys sitting in the burger joint talking are some of my favorite scenes. So I’m really glad we’ll be able to spend a lot of time with the two of them.”

What's the plan for Amber in the next season of Parenthood? — Lisa
ADAM: Executive producer Jason Katims promises that Amber's car accident and failure to get into college will really provide her the motivation to do some growing up. "She really needs to declare her independence in a way and be an adult," Katims says. "That's hard to do when you don't really have a plan in your life. I think Sarah will make an effort to give her that independence and not ride her quite so much."

Question: Now that Parenthood has been renewed (best news ever, btw!) and The Event has not, is it possible we will see Jason Ritter return in season 3 to rekindle his relationship with Sarah? — Kellen
Ausiello: Seems likely. Even highly likely. In fact, when Mitovich spoke with Lauren Graham, she was hoping the same thing you were — so much so that real-life beau Peter Krause teased that she liked her leading man. “We all like him,” she laughed. “I like him for Sarah Braverman!” And you know what else the former Gilmore Girl likes for her current character? A job. “I think it’d be cool for her to have a career [as a writer],” she says, “and build on that some more.”

Parenthood's Pregnancy...
May 16, 2011

On the heels of the renewal news, stars Monica Potter and Peter Krause are thrilled to continue the impending pregnancy story line revealed in the finale. "Having a baby along with Max and what's going on with Haddie, I think applying that pressure would be great," Krause says. He also hints that creator Jason Katims may do a minor time lapse. "It may start off right where we left or we might jump ahead six months." Potter is looking forward to sporting a baby bump: "I'm just excited I can eat whatever I want for a little bit before I have to go, 'Oh, I'm really not pregnant.'"

Ausiello: “We don’t have any plans yet,” says Katims. “We were lucky to get Steven to do that one episode. And we may pursue [having him do more]. It’ll probably be based on his availability.”
