12 Best TV Shows of 2012
All television is supposed to evoke emotion, but great television will force those emotions out of you and no other series has inspired as much uncontrollable sobbing or infectious laughter as NBC's refined family drama.
From Kristina's brave and beautiful breast cancer arc to the constantly evolving growth Amber has displayed, it's been a privilege to be an extended member of The Braverman Family. Which is, incidentally, comprised of the most talented actors on television.
The Best TV Shows of 2012
Parenthood truly hit its stride in Season 4, thanks to Monica Potter's pitch-perfect performance in Kristinas struggle with breast cancer, Julia and Joels fumbled introduction of their adopted son Victor and Ambers crushing first love with a former soldier. Added to the show's embarrassment of acting riches, Ray Romano, the unlikeliest of romantic heroes, has made himself at home as Sarah's boss/love interest. If the Bravermans are looking to adopt any more, sign us up.
NBC moves Parenthood Return Date
January 1st "Keep on Rowing" Hank and Sarah go on a proper date; Renee falls on hard times; Kristina makes a bold move.
Behind Adam And Kristina's Season 4 Cancer Battle With Peter Krause
It's been a difficult year for Peter Krause, who plays Adam on NBC's "Parenthood" (Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EST). The actor has had to fight cancer both on screen with the series' most emotional Season 4 storyline, Adam's wife Kristina (Monica Potter) battling cancer, and off screen with his father and mother's simultaneous battle with the disease.

Ausiello's 20 Questions
Was Parenthoods Max-free episode in response to this columns grumble from last week? Also, who else groaned, Nooooo! as soon as tipsy Sarah turned the hotel hall corner and bumped into Mark? (Are Sarahs relationship decisions starting to become as troubling as Lorelais?)
Time Magazine's top 10 TV series of 2012
This extended-family drama, from creator Jason Katims of Friday Night Lights, has always been good. But its third and fourth seasons have elevated it to one of TVs best because of how it has hit a memorable theme from FNL: the idea of how community can be, inseparably, both a burden and and indispensable support. Here the community is not a football team but the Braverman clan of Berkeley, Calif., which has been challenged by adoption, autism and, this fall, cancer, without seeming like its ratcheting up the stakes unrealistically for emotion. In the Bravermans world, to paraphrase The Simpsons, family is the cause of, and solution to, all of lifes problems. And by raising its game to show the genuine drama in real-life challenges, it has become a show well worth adopting. (NBC)
Jason Ritter: Will he survive this week's 'Parenthood'?
Ladies love Jason Ritter. The 32-year-old actor, the son of the late John Ritter, has been a series regular on Joan of Arcadia, The Event and is now in his fourth season as Mark Syr on NBC's Parenthood.
Tomorrow night, his character's future is in jeopardy as his fiancé Sarah (Lauren Graham) continues to juggle relationships with Mark and her photographer boss Hank (Ray Romano). I chatted with the Emmy-nominated Ritter about the show, and tried my best to get him to spill a few secrets.

'Parenthood' season 4: Could NBC extend episode order?
Speaking in a conference call to TVLine, NBC's programming head Robert Greenblatt claims that the decision to keep the "Parenthood" order the same is not an issue of quality, but instead it is instead based around the schedule that has already been put in place for the rest of the year:
That ship has sailed for this season, because we have planned the rest of the year very carefully ... But Im thrilled to see Parenthood get an uplift this year [oftentimes winning its time slot in the demo] . Jason Katims is one of the best showrunners in drama, and he has keyed into a storyline this season primarily, [Kristina's] cancer that has moved the show forward in a great way. We couldnt be happier about that.
Is NBC in Legal Trouble Over Ray Romano's Character Name on 'Parenthood'?
For the past few weeks, NBCUniversal has been trading letters with an attorney for Rizzoli Publications, a publishing house that specializes in coffee-table books on art, architecture, interior design and, oh yes, photography.

In season 3 Peter Krause directed the 15th episode Politics. Last week Dax Shepard Tweeted that he will also be directing an episode and now it looks like Sam Jeager will be sitting in the directors chair for an episode of Parenthood this season.
Whether its his newly found experience as a father or as a feature film director, hes getting a chance to direct an episode of Parenthood. Basically, getting that job just involves a lot of begging. If I hadnt done Take Me Home, I dont know if Id have this opportunity. [Parenthood is] obviously close to my heart, and even if I werent on the show, Id feel pretty invested in it. I really love the dynamic of the show. Its one of the very few shows Ive been involved in, in my 12 years of acting that I can say Im proudest of contributing to, in some small way. And I just respect [Parenthood show runner] Jason Katims so much that its going to be a lot of fun. Im sure Ill catch a lot of flak from the cast and crew, and Im looking forward to that too.

Mae Whitman and Landon Pigg talk Parenthood, Arrested Development and Austin
At just 24, actress Mae Whitman has quite the acting resume. Having played the daughter of George Clooney (One Fine Day), Sandra Bullock (Hope Floats) and even the President of the United States (Independence Day), Whitman proved at an early age she could act alongside the best of the best. Throughout her career shes been on the big screen, the small screen and even in cartoons, voicing Katara in Avatar: The Last Airbender as well as Tinker Bell in the Disney Fairies franchise.
Arguably, her most notable roles have come from the critically acclaimed and cult favorite, Arrested Development, where she portrayed bland Ann Veal, and the severely underrated Parenthood, where she plays Amber Holt.

Matt's Inside Line:
Parenthood | Many of you in the wake of that roller coaster finale and given the fact that Jason Ritter booked a lead in Jason Katims medical drama pilot for NBC are fearing the worst for Sarah and Mark, this despite the question he most romantically popped. But if the aforementioned County series does get picked up, at least the Parenthood pairing wont end on a grisly term. The good thing is that because theyre both Jason Katims and NBC/Universal Shows, it wouldnt be a case of [Sarah] gets a phone call saying I was in a fiery car crash, Ritter tells TVLine with a chuckle. Id be able to do some episodes to wrap it up naturally.

NBC Today Show - Parenthood is messy, true to reality
Actor Sam Jaeger of Parenthood tells the ladies of the fourth hour that the NBC drama holds a mirror up to real life, portraying flawed characters and complex relationships.
The below clip contains minor spoilers in the for on this weeks promo (ep3.17)
Question: Will Parenthood be renewed? How can excellent shows like that be on the bubble? How can people watch The Bachelor enough for it to keep coming back? - Richard
Matt Roush: I'd be surprised if Parenthood doesn't return, for several reasons: NBC is struggling on all fronts, and while this family drama - an endangered species in its own right - is far from a hit, and is ending its run early next Tuesday, it's not an embarrassment. And NBCUniversal owns the show, so is likely to be more tolerant toward one of its few dramatic properties that generates critical buzz and audience goodwill. That said, it's not a sure bet, because very little on this network is. I wish NBC could find a time period earlier in the night to test its appeal outside of the treacherous 10/9c hour (when many people are busy with DVR playback). But none of this has anything to do with the inexplicable appeal of shows like The Bachelor. Train-wreck TV will always exert a fascination for a segment of the audience, and I just they were as eager to embrace shows that aimed a little higher once in a while.
Michael B. Jordan Unlikely To Return To 'Parenthood' Any Time Soon (But It's OK)
When I caught up with Michael about his role in the latter, I couldn't help but ask about his return to television -- specifically Parenthood. Fans love Alex and were bummed to see he and Haddie break up last season. So, will he be mending our hearts and returning to the show any time in the near future?
Parenthood Wrap Party
Several cast memebers have gone on Twitter talking about the wrap party and hoping they return for another season.
Sarah Watson - Parenthood wrap party fun fact. Jason Katims is an exceptional bowler.
Max Burkholder - Just wrapped parenthood season 3! Thanks to everyone who supported the show, I hope I can see you all next year!
Twitter: Jason Ritter
Parenthood is on tonight, you guys. Not even messing around. Dead serious. NBC 10/9c. This one is a little embarrassing for me. You'll see.

Monica Potter: Parenthood role is blessing

NBC orders two drama pilots
NBC also ordered a drama pilot from "Friday Night Lights" showrunner Jason Katims for "County," with another NBC alum attached as talent: former "The Event" lead Jason Ritter. "County" takes viewers into the lives of a group of young doctors, nurses, and administrators, in a frenetic underfunded and morally compromising LA County Hospital.
At this point it's unknown how this will affect his character on Parenthood, we are still waiting on renewal for a 4th season.
'Parenthood' star: Asperger story response 'overwhelming'
Appearing on "Parenthood" is an intimate experience for Monica Potter, who told TODAY's Al Roker, Samantha Guthrie, Matt Lauer and Natalie Morales on the plaza Monday that the NBC series "feels like a reality show at times."
NBC's Parenthood has St. Louis connection
Los Angeles (KSDK) - Think of Hollywood, and chances are the three words lights, camera, action probably come to mind. But truth be told, there's actually more action before those words are uttered.
Eventually the stars make it to the set, get a little direction from the director and the scene is shot.
"Ah, perfect! That was great," the director said to the crew.
You also get quite a bit of action when you put Mae Whitman and Lauren Graham together for an interview.

The Sentimental Smarts of Parenthood
Theres a popular theory that the mark of a great TV show is that it dares you to reject it. The most ambitious dramas repel their audiences (The Sopranos) or confuse them (The Wire) or give them nightmares about bodies dissolving in acid (Breaking Bad). The most admirable comedies, such as 30 Rock, crackle with cynicism. On certain nights, one might imagine that Seinfeld had stamped its motto all over the TV schedule: no hugging, no learning.
