| NBC New Year's Eve Special December 22, 2012 NBC's annual New Year's Eve With Carson Daly has unveiled its lineup. The two-hour special, live from New York City's Time Square and hosted by Daly. Cast members from Parenthood will be among the NBC stars to appear on the show. 12 Best TV Shows of 2012 All television is supposed to evoke emotion, but great television will force those emotions out of you and no other series has inspired as much uncontrollable sobbing or infectious laughter as NBC's refined family drama. From Kristina's brave and beautiful breast cancer arc to the constantly evolving growth Amber has displayed, it's been a privilege to be an extended member of The Braverman Family. Which is, incidentally, comprised of the most talented actors on television. The Best TV Shows of 2012 Parenthood truly hit its stride in Season 4, thanks to Monica Potter's pitch-perfect performance in Kristinas struggle with breast cancer, Julia and Joels fumbled introduction of their adopted son Victor and Ambers crushing first love with a former soldier. Added to the show's embarrassment of acting riches, Ray Romano, the unlikeliest of romantic heroes, has made himself at home as Sarah's boss/love interest. If the Bravermans are looking to adopt any more, sign us up. NBC moves Parenthood Return Date January 1st "Keep on Rowing" Hank and Sarah go on a proper date; Renee falls on hard times; Kristina makes a bold move. Behind Adam And Kristina's Season 4 Cancer Battle With Peter Krause It's been a difficult year for Peter Krause, who plays Adam on NBC's "Parenthood" (Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EST). The actor has had to fight cancer both on screen with the series' most emotional Season 4 storyline, Adam's wife Kristina (Monica Potter) battling cancer, and off screen with his father and mother's simultaneous battle with the disease. Also, who else groaned, Nooooo! as soon as tipsy Sarah turned the hotel hall corner and bumped into Mark? (Are Sarahs relationship decisions starting to become as troubling as Lorelais?) Time Magazine's top 10 TV series of 2012 This extended-family drama, from creator Jason Katims of Friday Night Lights, has always been good. But its third and fourth seasons have elevated it to one of TVs best because of how it has hit a memorable theme from FNL: the idea of how community can be, inseparably, both a burden and and indispensable support. Here the community is not a football team but the Braverman clan of Berkeley, Calif., which has been challenged by adoption, autism and, this fall, cancer, without seeming like its ratcheting up the stakes unrealistically for emotion. In the Bravermans world, to paraphrase The Simpsons, family is the cause of, and solution to, all of lifes problems. And by raising its game to show the genuine drama in real-life challenges, it has become a show well worth adopting. (NBC) Jason Ritter: Will he survive this week's 'Parenthood'? Ladies love Jason Ritter. The 32-year-old actor, the son of the late John Ritter, has been a series regular on Joan of Arcadia, The Event and is now in his fourth season as Mark Syr on NBC's Parenthood. 'Parenthood' season 4: Could NBC extend episode order? Speaking in a conference call to TVLine, NBC's programming head Robert Greenblatt claims that the decision to keep the "Parenthood" order the same is not an issue of quality, but instead it is instead based around the schedule that has already been put in place for the rest of the year: That ship has sailed for this season, because we have planned the rest of the year very carefully ... But Im thrilled to see Parenthood get an uplift this year [oftentimes winning its time slot in the demo] . Jason Katims is one of the best showrunners in drama, and he has keyed into a storyline this season primarily, [Kristina's] cancer that has moved the show forward in a great way. We couldnt be happier about that. Is NBC in Legal Trouble Over Ray Romano's Character Name on 'Parenthood'? For the past few weeks, NBCUniversal has been trading letters with an attorney for Rizzoli Publications, a publishing house that specializes in coffee-table books on art, architecture, interior design and, oh yes, photography. How can excellent shows like that be on the bubble? How can people watch The Bachelor enough for it to keep coming back? - Richard Matt Roush: I'd be surprised if Parenthood doesn't return, for several reasons: NBC is struggling on all fronts, and while this family drama - an endangered species in its own right - is far from a hit, and is ending its run early next Tuesday, it's not an embarrassment. And NBCUniversal owns the show, so is likely to be more tolerant toward one of its few dramatic properties that generates critical buzz and audience goodwill. That said, it's not a sure bet, because very little on this network is. I wish NBC could find a time period earlier in the night to test its appeal outside of the treacherous 10/9c hour (when many people are busy with DVR playback). But none of this has anything to do with the inexplicable appeal of shows like The Bachelor. Train-wreck TV will always exert a fascination for a segment of the audience, and I just they were as eager to embrace shows that aimed a little higher once in a while. Michael B. Casting News - Melanie Kannokada melaniekannokada.com - twitter Melanie Kannokada has been cast on the show, she may be playing Marks ex-girlfriend Kirsten Munson in episode 3.15. The Sentimental Smarts of Parenthood Theres a popular theory that the mark of a great TV show is that it dares you to reject it. The most ambitious dramas repel their audiences (The Sopranos) or confuse them (The Wire) or give them nightmares about bodies dissolving in acid (Breaking Bad). The most admirable comedies, such as 30 Rock, crackle with cynicism. On certain nights, one might imagine that Seinfeld had stamped its motto all over the TV schedule: no hugging, no learning. |
