THE MORNING AFTER - Picking up on the day after last season's finale, Lorelai (Lauren Graham) wakes up in bed with Christopher (David Sutcliffe). Confused and mortified, she makes a hasty exit, ignoring Christopher's pleas that she stay. Once at home, Lorelai tries to get rid of everything that reminds her of Luke (Scott Patterson) and ends up practically emptying her house. Rory (Alexis Bledel) receives a toy rocket ship as a parting gift from Logan (Matt Czuchry) and is baffled as to its meaning. She decides she should join him in London for the summer, only to learn he has bought her a ticket for a visit at Christmas. Kirk (Sean Gunn) and Taylor (guest star Michael Winters) cause a bizarre accident that damages Luke's diner. Finally, Luke shows up at Lorelai's door and asks her to elope. Melissa McCarthy, Yanic Truesdale and Liza Weil also star. Lee Shallat Chemel directed the episode written by David S. Rosenthal (#2T7751).

  • Review - "Somehow, I hoped Lorelai was past making huge mistakes like this, but it appears that when a big, life-changing decision is to be made, Christopher is there to lead her astray. Then again, Rory made a few bad choices when it came to men also, especially when she lost her virginity and became the "other woman" in one fell swoop by sleeping with a very married Dean. What's with these girls?" - zap2it.com - lancer1993@FanForun

  • Review - "I’m too busy marveling that fans so quickly found a new whipping girl—Lauren Graham—to blame for their dissatisfactions." - popmatters.com - lancer1993@FanForum

  • Review - "We know what you might be thinking. On the rare occasion that a TV series keeps going without its creator, attacking the new guy might seem like the fashionable thing to do. It can look like an unjustified, knee-jerk reaction, a failure to cut the new person some slack. But the insufferable premiere transforms Rory (Alexis Bledel) and Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) into babbling idiots. - seattlepi.nwsource.com - lancer1993@FanForum

  • Review - "Rosenthal has two choices: to continue down the current path, which seems dedicated to undermining one of TV's most endearing characters (and wasting one of TV's best actresses); or to put Lorelai and Luke back together, marry them off and gracefully shepherd the show off the air." - Robert Bianco, USA Today - Ciaobella@FanForum

  • Review - "In Tuesday's opener, Lorelai tells everyone who'll listen, "It's over." If only it were. Not Lorelai and Luke, but the series itself, which in this latest contrivance to keep the couple apart is only taxing our patience." Speculation (Below is spec based on the spoilers and what I think might happen)
Updated August 20, 2006 - Speculation - The episode starts where Partings ended, with Lorelai and Chris in bed. Lorelai getting out and they talk about what happened, maybe some shouting before she leaves the apartment.

We have the Paris/Rory Yale stuff.

Lorelai returns home, showers and gets ready for work as she is leaving Luke comes over, they talk but she doesn't tell him what happened, Lorelai calls Rory and they meet at the DFI, she doesn't want to talk about what happened apart from telling Rory that she is broken up with Luke, they go to the racquetball court, Lorelai in denial.

Luke is having a bad day, not knowing what was up with Lorelai since seeing her again. The 65 Thunderbird crashes into the Diner Luke is in a mess and can't think. He storms off and ends up at the Crap Shack (Lorelai's House -
Don't get me started on why this is not Luke and Lorelai's house by now!) when Lorelai comes back home, he talks to her about what happened with the diner and April, Lorelai breaks down and tell him about Chris, he storms off.

Lorelai goes inside and starts packing Luke's stuff and breaks down again, It finally hits her that she left Luke.
